Rebecca is an applied marine scientist working to co-create solutions that help conserve our coasts and oceans while supporting people’s livelihoods and cultural connections. Rebecca’s passion for the ocean started on the beaches and salt marshes of the US southeast, but she has fully embraced the rocky coast.
Rebecca has a PhD from Stanford University in biological sciences, and over the past 20-years she has worked on a variety of issues in coastal ecosystems across the west coast of North America, including small-scale fisheries sustainability, cumulative impacts to coastal ecosystems, developing and managing marine protected areas, and monitoring estuarine, intertidal, and kelp forest ecosystems in Baja California, California, and British Columbia.
As our Senior Advisor and Science Coordinator, Rebecca provides support for our interpretive guides and helps to coordinate citizen science initiatives and collaborations with our partners. Rebeccas is excited to share her enthusiasm and knowledge about the BC coast and beyond, and to work with the Outer Shores crew to explore and protect the places we love.
