Our guests travel from around the world to experience and learn about the wildlife, ecosystems, cultures, and communities of West Vancouver Island, based-from Outer Shores Lodge, and Haida Gwaii and the Great Bear Rainforest while living and travelling aboard our classic wooden schooner, Passing Cloud.

Expedition Chef

About the Position

Our passionate and professional chefs are culinary-school trained and/or Red Seal certified and have extensive experience creating fine dining experiences in unique culinary environments. Onboard the sailing vessel Passing Cloud, our chefs are in charge of all meals and complete management of the galley. Our food philosophy holds that the cultivation, distribution, preparation, and appreciation of the food we eat are critical to our individual well-being, and the well-being of our environment. Whenever possible, we source and serve foods that are sustainably, locally, and organically grown, produced, raised, or caught in BC.

This position requires a person who has an eye for detail, strong interpersonal skills and experience aboard small ships. Effective organization of the galley involves a wide range of skills including but not limited to meal planning, provisioning, food safety and hygiene as well as administration and inventory. The ideal candidate can adapt to changing circumstances, and can work independently, often on tight time schedules, while crew and guests share a small space. Our chefs and crew alike take great pride in preparing and serving our guests delicious meals that are healthy, plentiful, beautiful, and immersed in the ecosystems and cultural traditions of coastal BC. Our chef should share a passion for enhancing guest experience through food, utilizing local and seasonal meats, produce and seafood of our coast. Must be able to work long hours, prepare multiple meals and snacks per day and stay onboard for extended periods over the season.

Duration

Seasonal contract (May to October)

Location

Onboard 70’ classic wooden sailing vessel Passing Cloud, multi-day sailing expeditions conducted throughout the British Columbia Coast.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive wage plus gratuities. Transportation to/from ship from either Victoria, Nanaimo, or Vancouver. Meals, accommodation, plus the opportunity to explore and experience the wildlife, wilderness and cultures of the amazing coast of British Columbia.

Job Title

Guest Services & Marketing Coordinator

About the Position

We’re looking for an ambitious and detail-oriented Guest Services and Marketing Coordinator to join our fun, passionate, and energetic team! You will assist with marketing, social media, as well as administer pre and post expedition guest services. Candidates must be strong writers, self-motivated and genuinely excited to ensure that our guests have the best possible experience with Outer Shores from start to finish. Education and/or experience in travel and tourism, communications and/or marketing are required.

Start Date

January 1st, 2022

Hours

9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday-Friday (30 hours/week)

Location

As we are a distributed administrative team, this is a home-based position; however preference will be given to individuals with the ability to meet with our team in person at least monthly.

Compensation & Benefits

Commensurate with experience.
